For Physicians How you can bridge the Asthma GAP
Reinforce the importance of treating asthma every day
25% of patients in a recent survey felt it was appropriate to stop taking their controller medications when they’re not experiencing symptoms. What was unexpected from the survey, however, is that some physicians have a similar viewpoint. In the same survey, 36% of physicians reported believing that in patients with moderate to severe asthma, it’s appropriate to take controller medicines less – or to stop taking them completely – if symptoms subside.
So physicians too, need reinforcement of the importance of daily medication.
To manage all the symptoms of asthma and help prevent asthma episodes in patients with persistent asthma, controller medications should be taken every day. When talking with patients and colleagues, help increase asthma awareness and dispel misconceptions by emphasizing the importance of a proper treatment plan including daily controller medication.
